Jeu Concour

A place of culture, exchange and scientific and technical training

The Aquarium is an invaluable tool for discovering, observing and understanding life under the sea.

To develop scientific learning and training, the Aquarium has set up the association E.C.O.L.E de la Mer, which stands for Espace de Culture Océane du Littoral et de l’Environnement (Coast, Environment and Ocean Culture Centre).

Funded by the Poitou-Charentes region and chaired by the La Rochelle-native sailor, Isabelle Autissier, who is also President of WWF France, this association is tasked with strengthening the educational and scientific initiatives conducted at the Aquarium.

The association draws on the skills and expertise of the Aquarium personnel in liaison with the Local Education Authority, Universities of La Rochelle and Poitiers, the French Department for Schools and regional research centres.

E.C.O.L.E puts on a whole host of free conferences and exhibitions and has included two “find out more” areas in the visit itinerary.
There is also a sea-oriented careers advice centre for youngsters to find out more about over 140 professions and courses.
