Timid and solitary by nature, this fish never ventures out into the open water and often hides in a shelter found in the middle of a coral reef.
It then displays its territorial instinct and can be very aggressive toward smaller fish.
It mainly feeds on zooplankton and small crustaceans.
During the breeding period, the female deposits her eggs on the substrate, and the male fertilizes them and then watches them until they hatch.
